life before being the president
The beginning: Harry S.Truman was born on May 8th, 1884 in Lamar, Missouri, US. Out of 2 other siblings, John Anderson Truman and Martha Ellen Young Truman, he was the oldest of all. After graduating from High School in 1901 (Age:17) he became a time keeper on the Santa Fe Railroad. He also did many small jobs after this. Marriage: In 1911 he proposed to Bess Wallace but got turned down. Truman told her that before proposing again he would be earning more money than a farmer did. (He later married her.) On Febuary 17, 1924, Margaret Truman was born. She became an American Singer then became the author of a sucessful series of Murder Mystery books.
Major Jobs before Presidency:In 1905 (Age:21) he joined the army and was appointed to the United States Millitary Academy, but his childhood dream was turned down because of his poor eyesight. Then he headed to the Missouri Army National Guard. He failed the eyesight test again but the second time he passed by cheating. (Secretly memorizing the eye chart.) After years of training and experience he was promoted to a battery officer. In World War 1, under Captain Truman's command in France, the battery didn't lose a single man. Truman's artillery unit shot some on the last shots before the armistice. (a agreement between the allies and germany that ended world war 1) His experience in World War 1 brought out his Leadership and made his first political job as a US Senator possible.
